What is Krav Maga

Krav Maga is the official system of hand to hand combat  taught in the Israel Defence Forces and over 500 other military and Law Enforcement agencies internationally. Krav Maga is 'The' system to learn if you want proven self defence training taught by professional instructors.  Krav Maga is renown for its simple, no nonsense approach to Self Defence. The Krav Maga approach to training is tough, simple. and above all practical.  Krav Maga is quite literally the most battle proven self defence system in the world

What is the British Krav Maga Association

The British Krav Maga Association is a genuine grass roots movement and the fastest growing Krav Maga Organisation in the UK. We grew out of Krav Maga Bristol one of the UK's largest most successful Krav Maga Schools. The BKMA run what is probably the most demanding Krav Maga Instructor course in Europe and offer some of the most professional training courses you'll find anywhere. Our training methods and programmes are quite literally state of the art and set us apart from competing organisations.

No Short cuts...

We offer professional, quality mark training. We dont offer any quick instructor certifications.  All BKMA instructors are required to complete the 18 day Professional Instructors Diploma Course which we understand is the toughest, and most demanding Krav Maga Instructor Course in Europe. It's certainly the only one that carries an externally recognised national qualification.

Krav Maga and Politics

Whether its organisational politics, ('my association is better than yours'), or middle eastern politics, ('my country/religion is better than yours'). We dont do them. We are simply a British Association offering professional coaching to students and Instructors in Israeli Krav Maga.  We welcome all creeds, races and religions. We are an inclusive organisation.

Krav Maga in Bristol

If you are based in Bristol, you are in a unique position. The British Krav Maga Association is based in Bristol.  Bristol is a hot spot for Krav Maga in the UK with more Krav Maga Instructors per capita than any other city. This is because Krav Maga Bristol has trained more Krav Maga Instructors than any other School in the UK. Krav Maga Bristol has expanded to Clifton, Bedminster, Southville, Fishponds, and Filton.

The BKMA Krav Maga Instructor Course is the only Krav Maga Instructor course in Europe awarding a Level 3 Nationally recognised qualification. Our Graduates can (with further training) teach within the Military, Law Enforcement, security and close protection areas. We are the only organisation able to offer this.  Our training certification will enable instructors to teach outside of the usual 'Martial arts' sphere as professional trainers.

I have been a serving member of the royal marines for the past 27 years and have had to endure intensive training which has taken me to the limit both mentally and physically. However, the challenges of the 18 day instructors course in Krav Maga could certainly give my past experiences a run for the money.

It was an extremely well run, well structured intensive course both mentally and physically. About mid way through each 9 day package you will find yourself hitting a wall where the easy option is to listen to your self doubts because your body and mind will have been tested to the limit. Paul will motivate you to dig deep and is very supportive without misleading you in anyway.

This course really is a course where size doesn't matter, but your ability to absorb the instruction given regarding technique and methodology of Krav Maga is of paramount importance. There will be times during this course where you will feel physically 'done' and it is at this point (ie when you are being pressure tested by an attack from 2 assailants) that techniques come into there own. To sum up up course.... you don't have to worry about age or size but you DO need to be physically fit and mentally strong. This course quite simply does what it says on the tin! and i for one thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience!

The fastest way to Self Defence?

Having taught a handfull of other martial arts over the years I would definatley answer - "Learn  Krav Maga."

I know you are probably thinking ah but he would say that - he teaches it? The question is what do I teach the most important people in my life; My children.  Again - no doubt or reservation: Krav Maga.

I love the martial arts.  I love the power, the beauty, the diversity. I have been involved with them since 1971.  An inconvienent fact is that most wont work for self defence - despite the claims.  Martial Arts and Self Defence are totally different types of training. It’s rather like comparing a driving test to Formula 1. A similar process in theory but....
