"Be careful who you learn from, you could get really good at the wrong thing !" Unknown author
Recently a trend has emerged with camouflage clad civilian instructors claiming to teach 'special forces' or 'Commando' Krav Maga on completion of a short and expensive 3 day course. (See Links on C.K.M Here and Here)
Canada based Moni Aizik changed the name of his own martial art, called ‘Combat Survival’ to Commando Krav Maga when Krav Maga achieved international acclaim.
Moni has made extensive claims about his personal system being ‘the system’ used in the Israeli Special Forces. Recently challenged by members of the Israeli Defence Force, including special forces instructors, Moni appears to be recanting his claims. I believe he is no longer claiming to have co founded Krav Maga either. He also makes no further mention of his previous claims about being ambushed by 1000 syrian commandos.
In short, commando Krav Maga is not taught to commandos and is not Krav Maga, but it is Mr Aiziks own martial art. If you want to see what is taught in the IDF visit here to see the real thing on the Fight Quest programme.
I quote the Chief Counter Terror Instructor at the Israeli Special Defence Force Special Forces Division on the matter of what commando krav maga and Moni Aizik is claiming.
.
"CKM has never existed and does not exist in the IDF in any capacity. Not by name and not by form of strategies and tactics. Kapap included, it existed once from the 1930’s to the 1950’s and has never been used in any way in any area of the IDF since.
Both of those systems negate what we teach here in the IDF. I’ve contacted Moni in regards to his claims, and he says he’ll call me when he’s in Israel next time to meet cause he would rather explain everything to me in person…..so I’m looking forward to that meeting.
My last and final point I’m going to make here, for those who are interested in learning the official system of the IDF SF…..that system always has been and till this day is krav maga…..and nothing else! “
