krav maga instructor course

The MOST CREDIBLE Instructor Cert in THE uk

The BKMA Krav Maga Instructor Course is the only Krav Maga Instructor course in Europe awarding a Level 3 Nationally recognised qualification. Our Graduates can (with further training) teach within the Military, Law Enforcement, security and close protection areas. We are the only organisation able to offer this.  Our training certification will enable instructors to teach outside of the usual 'Martial arts' sphere as professional trainers.

The only Krav Maga Instructor Course in the UK leading to an externally recognised NVQ 3 Professional Trainer Award

I have been a serving member of the royal marines for the past 27 years and have had to endure intensive training which has taken me to the limit both mentally and physically. However, the challenges of the 18 day instructors course in Krav Maga could certainly give my past experiences a run for the money.

It was an extremely well run, well structured intensive course both mentally and physically. About mid way through each 9 day package you will find yourself hitting a wall where the easy option is to listen to your self doubts because your body and mind will have been tested to the limit. Paul will motivate you to dig deep and is very supportive without misleading you in anyway.

This course really is a course where size doesn't matter, but your ability to absorb the instruction given regarding technique and methodology of Krav Maga is of paramount importance. There will be times during this course where you will feel physically 'done' and it is at this point (ie when you are being pressure tested by an attack from 2 assailants) that techniques come into there own. To sum up up course.... you don't have to worry about age or size but you DO need to be physically fit and mentally strong. This course quite simply does what it says on the tin! and i for one thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

'The first day, I thought for a second I might be woefully out of my depth, then Paul came in and showed us just how equal we are to the task and the journey began. I have made some AMAZING friends from the course and consider the support network that we have in place for each other to be of an outstanding and unprecedented quality.' How much ? £1799 for the Full Diploma. £999 for the trainers certificate course.

Trainees need to allow for travel and accommodation - these are not included.

How Long does it take ? 182 Hours for the full diploma or 72 hours for the certificate course.

An additional 38 hours home  learning is required for the Diploma course PTLLS certification.

How much time do I need to take off work ?

Most trainees only need to take 2 weeks leave for the diploma - or a single week for the certificate.

We run the course Saturday to Sunday. This way 4 days of each 9 day block are weekends. Some employers have been very supportive as the PTLLS certification has been useful to them as an employer.

How many days attendance are required ?

Diploma Trainees need to attend for 18 days.

Certificate trainees need to attend for 9 days.

Training on all courses is 8 hours a day.

Why a Diploma and a certificate level course ?

We offer two levels of training. The certificate is for those wanting an immersive training experience in authentic Krav Maga and the ability to open a small class or run some private training with small groups. Diploma students can do the certificate  and update it at a later date. The Diploma course goes into more deapth and teaches into more advanced levels of Krav Maga.

Can I upgrade from certificate to Diploma at a later stage ?

Yes. The courses integrate and are designed so that a certificate student can simply slot into the next available phase 2 if they want to expand their training.

Do I have to be fit ?

You are required to train consistently at moderate levels for 8 hours a day. Intermittent high intensity training is included but these sessions are limited. You need to be fit enough to sustain training every day for 9 days at a time. Poor physical conditioning almost inevitably leads to failure.

What ages attend ?

Trainees are typically in their 30's but ages vary from mid 20's to late 40's. Older applicants are made most welcome.  Allowances are made for age and injury - but not for poor fitness.

I have an injury can I attend ?

Contact Paul (0781234 6025) to talk about it. We attempt to work around most issues but at the end of the day you need to be able to train for 8 hours a day.

Is it real Krav Maga ? Yes.

The BKMA teaches authentic Krav Maga as founded by Imi Lichtenfeldt. Although various organisations argue about who is the heir to Imi - authentic Krav Maga is remarkably consistent through all the main organisations. If you train with us and then go to Israel and train - you wont stand out from other Krav practitioners - though there is always debate on technique LOL ;-)

But I have seen shorter courses and claims relating to be Special Forces and Anti Terror training?

There are a range of short 5 day courses. Theses courses lack any real credibility and result in an unrecognised 'Instructor's Diploma'. they are forced to rely heavily on marketingThere are shorter Courses at 3 and 5 days. Credibility and quality is the issue here. At the end of the day you can build a good instructor in only 5 days.

Short instructor courses are infamous in the martial arts industry. They are a great way for an individual to earn a lot of money - fast...

But, standards are low, (insufficient time to cover anything other than a few basic techniques), the courses unrecognised  and instructors are unsupported after completion (they have your money now).  Schools run by these quick course instructors tend to fold fairly quickly.

Krav Maga Frequently Asked Questions

Class teaching Practice for potential Krav Maga Instructors

How can you train an instructor in ONLY 18 days when it takes years to be a Black Belt ?

Firstly, Krav Maga is a fighting system NOT a Martial Art. The Israeli Army they allow 20 days (4 weeks) and other credible organisations allow 18 to 23 days. This is recognised as a realistic minimum.

From experience we know that Instructors want as much as possible in the shortest time possible. Hence 18 days minimum for the diploma or 9 days for a basic Certificate

To reduce attendance time - we require class planning and course work be completed outside of training hours - thats right - homework !!!!

Secondly, Krav Maga system is designed to be passed on quickly and effectively. Recruits in the Israeli Military or any of the other 500 or so Military or Police agencies using Krav Maga only have short periods of timer available to train Instructors or personnel. It works well enough for them...

Can I get a Black Belt? No.

We do not award Black Belts. The main reason is credibility. Children as young as 10 have 2nd degree Black Belts. You can earn a Black Belt online, even on a 1 day course now. So we avoid Black Belt all together, the award has been so denigrated as to become meaningless.

Is all Krav Maga the same ? No.

Generally anything paraphrased xxxxxx Krav Maga usually is not actually Krav Maga. Its often a hybrid system or very often not Krav Maga at all. Krav Maga is highly marketable so many claim to teach it.

How can I tell if its any good - so many people make all these claims ?

We agree, which is why the BKMA was started. We are really clear.

We offer real Krav Maga, back up from a reputable organisation, Continued professional update training, speacilist guest Instructors (from other reputable organisations) and maintain links with Instructors in Israel. You will see no 10th Degrees, Black Belts or Special Forces claims. We offer professional training, real Krav Maga and credible standards.

I am really interested but....

If you have any questions please feel free to ring or email. Krav Maga is our passion - we are delighted to help if we can.

krav maga, martial arts instructorKrav Maga Instructor - After care and support

You survived Instructor training - now what ?

The BKMA Basic Instructor Course provides in depth Krav Maga training, teaching practice Business modules and tough fight training. You passed, so what now.

Completing Instructor training is just the start. We offer more courses - more development and a high degree of ongoing support and mentorship. We are the only organisation to mentor new Instructors and offer constant follow up support.

The aftercare support has been as every bit as impressive as the course. It ensured myself and my fellow instructors have been able to set up our own schools and earning money in the shortest time possible. Within weeks of completing Instructor Training I have been approached by over twenty people interested in training with my school, I now have ten regular students attending my classes after two weeks of being open for business. Mark Edwards. Krav Maga Taunton

The BKMA recognises the aspirations and hopes of our newly qualified instructors. Typically they are keen to succeed but nervous about opening their own classes. All Instructors - not just newly qualified ones - receive support setting up classes, planning sessions and marketing their schools. The BKMA is the only Krav Maga organisation offering any level of ongoing support to its instructors.

Instructors receive ongoing support in the following areas:

1. Technical Training

We offer a clear route to continued Professional Development for Instructors. We offer a range of options from basic Instructor- through to a range of advanced and speciality options and eventually for those aiming at the very highest levels - Master Krav Maga Instructor. To find out more about whats on offer after basic training go to Instructor Development Program.

2. Planning and Teaching

We offer ongoing support via lesson plans, seminars and general instructor training. We also support instructors development through additional specialist modules including Control and Restraint, A Youth Program. Adrenalised Training and Combat Conditioning Coach Award.

3. Business Mentoring and Support

Starting your own school can be daunting. The BKMA is with you all the way. We offer support and advice. We are available on the phone monday to friday and we have an active Instructor community so there will always be someone on hand via phone, meeting or online at a number of communities. Instructor support is a core part of our success.

I consider the support network that we have in place for each other to be of an outstanding and unprecedented quality. Everybody is always 100% prepared to help each other out and we approach business as a unit. Jim Halton Krav Maga Fishponds Bristol.

BKMA Instructor Training

Whilst the Course is demanding - a family ethos and supportive approach is a big part of our training philosophy

BKMA_5_copyContinued Professional Development

We believe we offer the most comprehensive  Krav Maga Instructor Training outside of Israel. Our course has already become an industry benchmark and we believe one of the toughest in the world.

A fresh approach to training

We reviewed our competitors instructor training programs. Programs were essentiall divided into 2 approaches. Short certifications consisting of 3,4 or 5 days. Or more credible 18 or 24 days training courses. We noticed that the longer courses were very simmilar in terms of structure and design. The methodology was old but ernest. However we noticed that most were poorly thought out,  inefficiently constructed, or little more than an arbitrary list of techniques.

We observed that these courses had not been designed as progressive or in a manner conducive to efficient learning.  Others still seemed designed only to create additional revenue for the Organisation running them.  The 4 and 5 day 'Instructor Course" fell clearly into this category.

An Intelligent approach to better Instructors

The BKMA attempted to find a flexible and intelligent way to match Instructor development against an an intuitive and progressive Instructor training program.

We did some research and noticed 3 clearly defined stages in Krav Maga Instructor development.

  • Consolidation of Foundation skills.
  • Specialisation of skills
  • Mastery of skills

So we designed a program that would match the needs of the Instructor at different stages of their development. Rather than having the simple linear model of the other organisations, we designed a 3 tier model that reflected the development of the individual instructor. As a result our training is more efficient to deliver, more intuitive in practice. And that makes it faster to learn..

Consolidation Stage

On completion of Basic Training (Level 1) BKMA Instructors start to teach novice classes. Instructors have a 6 month mentorship period. Here they are supported with their schools and with their personal development. After 6 months continued training Instructors may attend Level 2 training to see if they are ready to continue their professional development. This period is called Consolidation.

Speciality Stage

Typically Instructors are keen to develop their skills further. At this stage Instructors start specialist training in modules of groundfighting, Cutting and striking weapons and firearms.

Advanced Stage

Once Instructors have completed the speciality stage  they are ready to learn and deliver increasingly advanced training. Advanced training consists of 3 modules at an advanced level. On completion Instructors should be able to delive the entire Krav Maga Curricula through to advanced stages as a practitioner and an Instructor.
